Taman Safari Indonesia Honored for Advancing Sustainable Tourism Through Waste Management

Jakarta, 26 Nov 2025 – Taman Safari Indonesia (TSI) received the detikcom Award for its leadership in sustainable tourism, highlighted by an integrated waste-management approach that protects wildlife, nature, and surrounding communities. This commitment earned the organization the Environmental, Energy, and Sustainable Development Award.

According to Alexander Zulkarnain, Chief Marketing Officer of Taman Safari Indonesia, the award serves as an important motivation for the organization to continue embedding sustainability at the core of its operations. “We are grateful to detikcom and the panel of judges for this recognition,” said Alex during the awards ceremony at The Westin Jakarta. “This award encourages us to deliver even greater environmentally driven contributions and meaningful positive impact for all stakeholders who support conservation and environmental sustainability.”

TSI’s efforts have already resulted in a 3 percent reduction in waste sent to landfills, with a long-term ambition to achieve zero waste in the coming years. Through its Integrated Waste Management (IWM) system, the organization independently processes both organic and inorganic waste using eco-friendly methods. Organic waste is broken down using black soldier fly (BSF) larvae, an efficient natural decomposer producing nutrient-rich materials that are repurposed as animal feed and high-quality fertilizer.Inorganic waste is also treated creatively, including the transformation of animal waste into Poo Paper, a sustainable recycled paper product. “Our hope is that this award inspires continued public support for the conservation of wildlife and nature,” Alex added. “With strong collaboration, the harmony between nature, animals, and humans can continue to flourish.”
